How to Remove System Restore (Rogue Software)

Tell your friends:
"System Restore" is a rogue Windows registry cleaner and HDD repair program that claims to fix common cause of Windows crashes and error messages (please see the image below). The name of this malicious software is truly misleading. As you probably know, there's a valuable and genuine Windows utility called System Restore. It solves major Windows problems and restores Windows system files while the fake one reports non-existent system errors and HDD failures. System Restore (fake) is from the same family as Data Recovery malware. If your computer is infected with System Restore malware, please refer to the following web page for specific removal instructions for this type of malicious software: http://deletemalware.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-to-remove-data-recovery-uninstall.html. You can read the rest of the write-up on that web page too. If you have problems removing System Restore, please leave a comment below. We will be more than happy to help you find the appropriate removal method. Good luck and be safe online!

Before continuing with the removal instructions, you can use cracked registration key and fake email to register the program. This will allow you to download and run any malware removal tool you like and restore hidden files and shortcuts.

Had this malware attack my laptop running Windows XP. I was able to run my antivirus scan and it removed it but i still can't see my files, icons, or even any of programs or commands that should display after clicking the start button. Any suggestions?

Download restoresm.zip, extract the archive and run the utility to restore your files.

Hello,

I have been infected by Restore System rogue yesterday.
I followed instructions on a site so I entered a key + email address. This enabled me not to receive those many error messages all the time. Some of my icons on my desktop came back also. But not all. Moreover, I still have difficulties to open some files, and my laptop seems to be lower than before (esp. for web pages).
I downloaded a programme (stop zilla then spyware doctor) on the same website to remove the infection. Unfortunately and of course, it didn't help. It merely scanned and detected the infections (several rogues etc.), what I already knew. when I tried to remove them (7), they - of course - asked me to buy the full version. what I refuse (and I'm now even wondering if it's safe, after all I read about that malware, I might become paranoiac).

I assume I can only unhide my files after this infection is removed. so my question is to know how I could remove it, can you provide me with a good software, FREE? I must precise that I have a licence for years (McAfee) for which I pay 70 euros/year. You may understand that I am even more angry to see that this didn't spare me that malware. What's the point in paying finally for an antivirus programme, so expensive moreover, for nothing?! Why would I now buy another one?

I hope you can help me and I thank you very much in advance, because it's very annoying, since I'm a student whose computer is the tool for all of my work.

Thank you

Does anybody read these comments? I had trouble with System Restore rogue. I used Norton Power Eraser, but now I don't know how to bring my programs back into the file menu. I was able to get my desktop icons back.

I ran system restore through windows and reset the system back to the previous day's system restore point. But I don't know if I should have restored back to the Norton Power Eraser system restore point.

Any help with any of these questions would be appreciated.

Please download and run Unhide.exe. Hopefully, it will restore most of your icons and shortcuts.

I'm afraid they have changed the code. Please follow the manual removal guide.

This is the only guide I have found that works.

If fallowed the instructions TO-THE-TEE

You will remove this pestering malware.

The best result I found to work,

Was when you typed the cracked Email.
And Serial code.

TO have a Malaware program ready to be loaded onto the computer.

I used MALWAREBYTES to take care of this
problem and it did just fine.

ANTI-VIRUS PROGRAMS ARE NOT ANTI-MALAWARE PROGRAMS So remember that when trying to
remove this pest!

Thank you for all your help you saved me
a Reformat! :o) :-D THUMBS UP 2 YOU!!

The problem is this program deletes all of the files from ProgramData directory. It leaves all of the folders intact but wipes all files. These files are ths shortcut icons used to build your start bar. Not much hope of fixing this problem short of manually rebuilding startbar shortcuts. The missing desktop icons can be fixed by unhiding these folders.

it works, thank you so much!

I used the malware software and got the System Restore to go away but my start menu is blank except for my "favorites" tab. How do I get it back?
