What is pcmax.exe?

pcmax.exe belongs to a program called PC Speed Maximizer. This program is a part of Win32/Conduit.SearchProtect.O, Adware.Downloader.AK and Win32:Dropper-gen [Drp] distribution. Multiple anti-virus engines have detected it as malware or at least a potentially unwanted program that may display false scan results to trick users into paying for the program. It can also make your computer run noticeably slower. The program is digitally signed by Search Safer Inc. Once installed, it is run as a windows Service named "pcmaxservice Service". The service loads the main executable file every time Windows starts. If you don't remember installing it on your computer then very likely it came along with some other unwanted programs and was probably installed using a silent installer. In other words, it wasn't clearly presented to you or there was no way to decline the installation. One way or another, it's not essential for Windows and may cause serious problems. Needless to say, I recommend you to remove pcmax.exe from your computer and run a full system scan with recommended anti-malware software.
